Let’s be honest, it’s not a nice feeling waking up in the morning with a hoarse voice, or feeling just plain sick. Your initial thought might be to get yourself a doctor’s appointment, but don’t be in such a hurry to be putting antibiotics into your body!!
~ Firstly, one of the most effective treatments to ease your throat you probably already have in your medical press and these are anti-inflammatory tablets, this will take the swelling down along with taking some of the pain away, specifically if you have a high temperature.
~ Gargling with salt and water many times through out the day is proven to reduce swelling in the throat and loosen mucus, helping to flush out bacteria. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in one cup of water and mix well. DO NOT SWALLOW, rinse around your mouth gargle at the back of your throat and spit out, repeat until water is gone.
~ It’s extremely important to keep yourself very very well hydrated, this will make your body feel a lot better and prevent you from feeling worse. Water is always a good option, but I also would recommend something like 7up, fruit juice or anything else that’s sugary!
~ Sleep, sleep and more sleep. Making sure your body is well rested will give you a better chance of fighting off the virus and help you feel better sooner.
~ If you’re not feeling up to eating, (as we all know we almost always loose our appetites when feeling unwell) just try making some chicken soup as you will receive some goodness from the veggies in it and it’s also easy to sip and swallow rather than swallowing chunky food with a sore throat.
And finally, last but not least, my favourite, sweet and tasty.. yum yum!!( I even drink this when I’m not unwell )
~ Cooled boiled water in a mug with a few squeezes of honey, one or two slices of fresh lemon and shake in about 10 cloves, really you can adjust any of these to your own personal taste 😉
GOOD TO KNOW: Honey has anti bacterial properties that may help you heal faster, so even take a few slurps on a spoon. But just don’t give babies under the age of one any honey at all.
